Good Boy is a thriller by director/producer Patrick Roddy (Red 71, Mercy). The film, written by Nicholl Fellowship semifinalist Ken Henderson, was shot in Louisiana, but used Tucson talent including actress Tiffany Shepis (Dark Reel), production advisor Craig Huston (First Blood, Heaven Can Wait), cinematographer Jorge Urbina (Caramelo), production managers Max Johns (Trade In) and Chelsea Benson (Trouble At Hand), editor Sara Sher (Lightbulb), and sound designer Jason Canfield (The Last Man). The original score is by local musician Tom Walbank, and Tucson's Amy Rude contributed songs from her Heartbeast album.

The plot of Good Boy follows a young man who attempts to escape his trapped existence by stealing money from his work and heading to California, hopefully to find a better life. But, he stumbles into an unimaginable world along the way, ruled by a depraved man who controls everything and everyone around him.

This film is for mature audiences only and contains violence, nudity, and profanity.

Lake Charles Feature Film Good Boy to be Screened

Director/producer Patrick Roddy, in partnership with the City of Lake Charles, will screen Good Boy on May 30, 8 p.m. at Central School Theatre, 809 Kirby Street. Good Boy, Roddy’s third film, was shot last summer in the Lake Charles area with cast and crew predominantly from southwest Louisiana. The psychological thriller was written by Ken Henderson of Moss Bluff. Henderson, a semifinalist in the Nicholl Fellowship screenwriting competition, also wrote Red 71. Admission to the screening of Good Boy is free. The film is not rated, however it is suggested for mature audiences.

The plot of Good Boy follows a young man who attempts to escape his trapped existence in a small rural town by stealing money from his work and heading to California, hopefully to find a better life. But, he stumbles into an unimaginable world along the way, ruled by a depraved man who controls everything and everyone around him.

Roddy is a professor-in residence in the School of Media Arts at The University of Arizona and is a former professor of Mass Communications at McNeese State University. Good Boy will be his eighth film as a producer and his third as a director. His award-winning directorial debut, Mercy, shot in Lake Charles in 2005, has been released on DVD by Unearthed Films. His most recent film, Red 71 had a theatrical premiere in New York City in July 2008, followed by a limited theatrical release. Roddy also produced Robbing Peter, which was nominated for four Independent Spirit Awards and Angry Young Man which won Best Feature Film at the Arizona International Film Festival.

The lead actor in Good Boy is Josh Marcantel, a DeQuincy native who now lives in New York City where he co-founded the Black Door Theatre Company. Gary Shannon of Lake Charles, Louisiana, plays the villain in the film. Other Louisiana actors in the movie are Tommy Cole, Hilary Bronwyn Gayle, Carl Bergeron, Carol Anne Gayle, Charles McNeely, Julie Ann Fay, John Prince, Chris Bello, and Cherrie Trahan. Horror film star, Tiffany Shepis, has a supporting role. An advisor on the film is Craig Huston, who has over thirty years of experience as assistant director on major films such as First Blood, Drop Zone, Heaven Can Wait, and The Eiger Sanction. The haunting soundtrack includes music by local band, the Loaded 44rz. The producers of Good Boy are Roddy, Henderson, and Brian McLaughlin (also producer of Trade In).
